MEDIA LITERACY AWARD

The BMUKK invites you and your students to participate in the media literacy awards competition 2008|09. Every year the BMUKK (Federal Ministry for Education, the Arts and Culture) in Austria organises the media literacy award [mla] for the best and most innovative educational media projects in European schools.

All European schools are invited to take part.

Media literacy means the ability to subject all kinds of media to critical examination. That this examination can be productive, creative and pleasurable is proved by last year’s contributions which can be found at
<http://www.mediamanual.at/mla.html>www.mediamanual.at/mla.html

Irrespective of whether the participants examine the content of the media or whether they want to produce something themselves (ideally one follows from the other), the media literacy award [mla] want to motivate pupils and teachers to develop their abilities to read and produce media texts.

The following can be submitted:

  Video || Radio || Print media & Comics ||New Media & Games

Entries in these categories can include all. They should be innovative, amusing, original, exciting and/or experimental. Mini-dramas are as welcome as research projects in as far as they are unusual contributions (e.g. Social Software etc.) to the theme.

Submission deadline for finished projects: 15th July 2009

On-line registration and detailed info: <www.mediamanual.at/mla.html>www.mediamanual.at/mla.html

A jury will consider all submitted entries and award prizes to the best.

The winners will be invited to the Media Literacy Gala in Vienna, where the best projects are presented.

Prize Ceremony: November 2009
